Romanen Nøglen fra Cordoba er inspireret af A.H. Behrends’ lille bog Nogle Aktmæssige Oplysninger om Agent Behrends Liv (1915), som for mange år siden fangede min opmærksomhed på Det Kongelige Bibliotek i København. I bogen følger vi den jødiske Joachim, der ankommer til København i 1783. Han blev sendt til Danmark af sin mor for at indgå et arrangeret ægteskab med en ung jødisk kvinde, der boede i København. Romanen skildrer hans udvikling fra en ung mand på vej ind i ægteskabets og forretningslivets verden, til han bliver en succesfuld og velhavende forretningsmand med forbindelse til det danske kongehus.Vi tages med gennem en turbulent tid i Danmarks historie, hvor Joachim er vidne til både slaget på Reden og Københavns bombardement. Bogen skildrer også jødernes forhold i slutningen af 1800-tallet og de dramatiske jødeoptøjer i København i 1820, som til sidst fører til Joachims død. Flemming Oppenhagen Behrend, forfatteren, voksede op på Frederiksberg og har siden 1980 arbejdet i sit eget dentallaboratorium i USA. Siden 2013 har han studeret Jungiansk psykologi ved Assisi Instituttet i Washington, hvor han bor med sin kone, Silvia.
