A collection of Buddhist mystic songs entitled, ’Caryacarya Viniscaya’ or ’Caryagitikosa’ is still being considered as the first literary composition in the Bengali Language. These songs were accidentally discovered from Nepal by Mr. Haraprasad Sastri during 1907. After about 56 years following that sensational discovery of Mr. Haraprasad Sastri, almost in the same accidental manner, Professor Sasi Bhushan Dasgupta could discover some more Buddhist mystic songs from Nepal during 1963. In order to distinguish the newly discovered Carya-songs from their older counterparts, Professor Sasibhusan Dasgupta had himself given his collections, the title of ’Nava Caryāpada’ or ’New Caryāpada.’
