Questo studio riassume i risultati dei lavori precedenti, mostra i principali nuovi risultati e, pertanto, può aiutare nella comprensione dei processi di formazione della nebbia e nello sviluppo di metodi di previsione nella regione tropicale. Questo studio può essere utilizzato come base per l’identificazione di informazioni climatologiche riguardanti la frequenza degli eventi, la struttura verticale dell’atmosfera e i sistemi di scala sinottica negli eventi associati alla formazione di bassa visibilità nella regione tropicale. I sistemi di scala sinottica tipici dei giorni di nebbia sono i seguenti: 1) Bassi livelli: Disturbi d’onda negli Alisei; 2) Livelli medi e alti: circolazioni anticicloniche (High e Ridge). La struttura troposferica durante i giorni di nebbia presenta i seguenti caratteri: 1) uno strato superficiale umido fino a circa 990 hPa (la variazione dell’umidità massima è stata significativa (69 -100%); 2) uno strato condizionatamente instabile dalla superficie fino a 900 hPa e uno strato stabile al di sopra. L’utilizzo della rianalisi CFSR come dati di input per il modello PAFOG mostra i migliori risultati nella previsione della bassa visibilità. L’uso del modello PAFOG mostra risultati soddisfacenti e la possibilità di prevedere la nebbia con 18 ore di anticipo.
