Como se indica en el título, este libro es una versión breve de una extensa biografía publicada en esta misma editorial sobre Nazario Carriquiry, uno de los empresarios más destacado del siglo XIX, fundador de una ganadería de reses bravas cuyo hierro todavía subsiste. De manera ordenada y sistemática se estudia su actividad económica (fue el español con mayor presencia en las sociedades por acciones de esa época), su actividad política, sus relaciones familiares y personales que derivan en redes de poder (a veces vinculadas a la Corona, especialmente con Mª Cristina de Borbón y Fernando Muñoz). Destacan su amistad con Juan Prim y el entramado de personajes que se implicaron en la restauración borbónica en la persona de Alfonso XII y, a nivel regional, su defensa de los intereses navarros. Al seguir la vida de Carriquiry entenderemos muchos de los acontecimientos en el ámbito empresarial y político del XIX. El auge de la industrialización tuvo lugar en los años cuarenta y cincuenta del siglo XIX, cuando Nazario se instala en Madrid para emprender nuevos negocios. Durante algunos años se centró en la contrata del puerto de Valencia, vinculada a Mª Cristina y F. Muñoz, a quienes Nazario representó mercantil y políticamente (a veces financiando campañas de opinión), especialmente después de la revolución de 1854. Desde la revolución de 1868 se enfrentó políticamente a su amigo Prim. Durante estos años y hasta 1875 trabajó por la Restauración borbónica. Esta investigación se ha documentado en archivos (Ateneo de Madrid, Congreso de los Diputados, General Militar de Segovia, General de Palacio, Banco de España, Colegio de Abogados de Madrid, Histórico Provincial de Guipúzcoa, Protocolos de Madrid, Senado, Municipal de Pamplona, Comunidad de Madrid, Real y General de Navarra, Registro Mercantil de Madrid), entre los que destaca el de Mª Cristina de Borbón (Archivo Histórico Nacional), que conserva miles de cartas cruzadas entre Carriquiry - Fernando Muñoz y su entorno, así como fuentes hemerográficas y numerosa bibliografía referente a la época. 10
