Nazareth

A hush falls across the stage as ancient Nazareth stirs with questions of faith, conscience, and human frailty. In this concise yet potent one act play, the familiar biblical landscape is transformed into a crucible where morality is tested and the boundaries of compassion and conviction are sharply drawn. The drama unfolds with a stark intimacy, inviting the audience to witness the inner lives of its characters as they grapple with the weight of spiritual duty and personal longing. Crafted in the tradition of early twentieth century theatre, this morality play stands apart for its elegant restraint and its piercing exploration of Christian themes, offering a unique blend of religious drama and psychological insight. The script’s clarity and precision make it a compelling choice for both reading and stage performance, while its subtlety rewards careful attention. Its dialogue, at once spare and evocative, reflects the sensibility of a British playwright attuned to the tensions of his era, yet its questions about forgiveness, justice, and the human heart remain strikingly resonant. As a short stage play, it distils the essence of English drama into a form that is both accessible and richly layered, appealing to those who appreciate the enduring power of theatre performance texts. This book was out of print for decades and is now republished by Alpha Editions.
