Руанда геологически расположена в поясе Карагве-Анколе, в центре Восточной Африки. Пояс Карагве-Анколе (KAB) отделен от пояса Кибаран (KIB) палеопротерозойским Русизийским террейном, и оба они образуют мезопротерозойские орогенные пояса Центральной Африки. Часть KAB, расположенная в Руанде, содержит основную массу касситерита, колумбит-танталита и вольфрамита. Эти рудные минералы получили название 3Ts и встречаются в Nb-Ta-Sn пегматитах, W-Sn гидротермальных кварцевых жилах и Sn грейзенах, которые являются компонентами одной составной металлогенической системы, связанной с генерацией гранитов (G4-гранит или плодородный гранит), произошедшей 986±10 млн лет назад. Состав гидротермального флюида - H2O-CO2-CH4-N2-NaCl, он характеризуется низкой или умеренной соленостью (2,7-14,2 экв. масс. %NaCl), высоким давлением (~100 МПа) и мезотермической температурой (~300°C). Изотопный состав флюидов показал, что минерализованные кварцевые жилы, скорее всего, образовались из флюидов, подвергшихся в основном метаморфическим процессам.
