В связи с высокими затратами на использование и обновление старых систем управления знаниями, а также связанными с ними вопросами и проблемами, системы управления знаниями, основанные на облачных вычислениях, становятся очевидным решением для обмена знаниями и их эффективного использования в организациях. Знания как услуга (KaaS) - это новая концепция, которая объединяет управление знаниями (УЗ), включающее организацию знаний, и рынки знаний. KaaS содержит программы, которые предоставляют контент (данные, информацию, знания) в качестве организационных результатов (например, советы, ответы, содействие), чтобы удовлетворить личные или внешние желания или потребности пользователей. Программы 'знания как услуги' (KaaS) предоставляются через рынки знаний в виде среды облачных вычислений (CC). Для обеспечения предоставления услуг в нужное время и надлежащим образом сообществу практиков (CoP) необходима система, называемая системой управления знаниями (KMS), чтобы KaaS можно было хорошо управлять в надлежащей форме с помощью процессов жизненного цикла управления знаниями.
