A personal reflection on three decades of service in international development, exploring the challenges faced by nations, my professional journey, and the life choices made along the way, aimed at enlightening future generations about my experiences. In MY USAID Journey: 30 Years of Mission Possible, I share insights from my extensive career as a foreign service officer with USAID. This book is not intended to be comprehensive and reflects my best recollection of events. It offers a glimpse into the geopolitical landscapes of the countries and regions I was involved with, the programs we implemented and their impact. Readers will discover the complex issues these nations faced during pivotal moments in history, providing context to my work and the decisions I made.Throughout my career, I navigated various challenges, from political instability to democratic backsliding and barriers to economic development, all while striving to make a meaningful impact. The narrative intertwines my professional responsibilities with personal anecdotes, revealing the choices that shaped my life and career. I wrote this book primarily for my children and grandchildren, hoping to bridge the gap between my experiences and their understanding of my work in international development.MY USAID Journey is an invitation to explore the challenges of global service, offering a unique perspective on the interplay between one’s personal and professional life in a career endeavoring to making a difference.
