Montenero è un tipico paese di montagna situato in Molise, al confine con l’Abruzzo, ma è anche molto altro. Sicuramente il villaggio e i suoi abitanti possiedono tradizioni e tratti caratteriali unici dovuti al relativo isolamento. Allo stesso tempo - come ampiamente rivelato da questo libro - la storia di Montenero è anche frutto del contatto con diversi popoli che si sono alternati nel corso dei secoli. Napoli era il cuore politico e culturale del Sud Italia, il cui patrimonio comune unisce Montenero alle altre realtà del Meridione. Chiunque abbia radici meridionali gradirà si- curamente questa lettura. La maggiore aspirazione dell’autore è che altri riescano a vedere in Montenero una metafora delle proprie origini, indipendentemente dalla nazione - o che lo percepiscano come un microcosmo, dove la storia e la cultura foggiano il carattere delle persone.
