Su arquitectura y su arte aún hoy resultan fascinantes: los mayas elevaron hacia el Sol que tanto veneraban sofisticadas construcciones de piedra y sacrificaron víctimas humanas en sus altares. Fue un pueblo dominado por guerreros y sacerdotes que combinó con sorprendente paridad el talento con la barbarie, la belleza con la fuerza, el arte con la sangre.
