Motoren machen 70-80% der industriellen Last aus. Die derzeit in Pakistan hergestellten Motoren sind sehr ineffizient und tragen zu erheblichen Stromverlusten im Stromnetz bei. Diese Ineffizienzen sind darauf zurückzuführen, dass die Motorenhersteller in Pakistan keine Möglichkeit haben, die Effizienzmerkmale der hergestellten Maschinen zu testen und ein Steuersystem zu entwickeln, um sie mit optimaler Effizienz zu betreiben. Ohne eine Leistungscharakterisierung der Motoren können die Motorenhersteller die IEC- (Europa) und NEMA-Normen (Amerika) nicht einhalten; folglich können sie ihre Produkte nicht nach Europa und Amerika exportieren. Die Motivation hinter unserem Projekt ’Motor Characterization Test Bench’ ist es daher, den Herstellern eine Hardware-in-Loop (HIL) basierte Plattform zur Verfügung zu stellen, um die Motoren vollständig nach den internationalen Standards zu charakterisieren, sowie eine F&E-Einrichtung für die Entwicklung effizienter Steuersysteme für den Motor bereitzustellen; damit zielen wir sowohl auf die Industrie als auch auf die akademische Welt als potenzielle Kunden dieses Produkts.
