Motherhood, as one of the historical themes related to women, has been included in historiographical narratives, and various researchers, including historians, discuss the subject in its vast possibilities. In this research, it was possible to bring up some discussions about the history of the female body, from its 'mysteries' during the colonial period to the discovery of its 'secrets' and the revelation of this body by medicine, starting in the 19th century. And how social medicine, already applied in some European cities, contributed to the articulation and implementation of a new public health model at the end of the 20th century in Campina Grande, Paraíba, under the Family Health Strategy, which organizes and directs its actions towards a new model of medicalization, now understood as preventive medicine. These are engaging topics that point to new approaches and can be researched and analyzed by various social scientists and especially by historians. From this perspective, this study does not establish a final conclusion, but rather leaves room for further discussion, as much still needs to be explored in this research, which is thought-provoking and broad in its historical perspectives.
