Le fondement de tous les dogmes chrétiens est la mort expiatoire du Christ. Cela signifie que le Christ, qui est à la fois Dieu et homme, est venu dans le monde, a pris sur lui les péchés de l’humanité et s’est sacrifié pour son salut. C’est la foi chrétienne, sur laquelle le christianisme est fondé. Le Christ est donc le représentant de l’humanité devant Dieu. Telle est la foi ou la théologie du christianisme jusqu’à aujourd’hui. À l’époque des Lumières, ce dogme fondamental du christianisme a été ébranlé par Emmanuel Kant, car ce dernier ne considérait le Christ que comme un modèle moral, un maître et un exemple, et défendait la thèse de l’irreprésentabilité morale. Dans ce livre, nous essayons de donner une réponse chrétienne à la question de Kant en nous appuyant sur les œuvres de Dorothee Sölle et de Joseph Ratzinger. Bien que les deux théologiens ne se soient pas directement penchés sur la question de Kant, ce livre montre comment ils le font néanmoins de manière indirecte. En outre, il montre comment une invalidation chrétienne de la position kantienne peut se présenter en faveur d’une doctrine de la substitution comprise de manière globale.
