'Morias Encomion, Sive Declamatio In Laudem Stultitiae', more commonly known as 'In Praise of Folly', is Desiderius Erasmus’s most famous work. This satirical essay, written in Latin in 1509, is a witty and incisive critique of European society. Narrated by Folly herself, the work playfully skewers theologians, merchants, philosophers, and even the Church, holding a mirror up to the vanities and absurdities of the age.Erasmus’s sharp wit and profound humanism shine through as he examines the role of foolishness in everyday life. A cornerstone of Renaissance literature, 'In Praise of Folly' remains a relevant and entertaining exploration of human nature and the pursuit of wisdom. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
