Montcalm and the Fall of New France describes the final chapter in the long struggle between France and England for dominance in North America, and the legacy of the last French commanding general, Louis-Joseph de Montcalm, during the fateful years of the French and Indian War (1754-1763). Outnumbered, outgunned, and virtually cut off from outside assistance by the Royal Navy, for three years Montcalm and his modest army managed to take the fight successfully to the English until finally overwhelmed at the Plains of Abraham on September 13, 1759. That defeat would bring about the downfall of French Canada at Montreal a year later.
