Jest to moja autoetnograficzna relacja z mojej kariery jako przedstawiciela użytkowników usług w Dorset Mental Health Forum w latach poprzedzających 2010 r. - okresie zmian zarówno w opiece społecznej, jak i służbie zdrowia. Staram się wyjaśnić, co mnie trapi, aby nakreślić obraz osoby, która jest ogólnie „normalna', ale cierpi na zaburzenia psychiczne, jednocześnie wykonując zawód przedstawiciela innych użytkowników usług zdrowia psychicznego. W tym okresie wprowadzono budżety osobiste oraz trzyletni program pilotażowy mający na celu zbadanie wykonalności osobistych budżetów zdrowotnych. Ponadto zmiana rządu i nowelizacja ustawy o zdrowiu psychicznym z 1983 r. spowodowały gruntowne zmiany w usługach.
