Le bois est un matériau renouvelable et anisotrope qui présente un rapport résistance/masse élevé, ce qui en fait un matériau idéal pour les constructions à faible émission de carbone. Bien que les normes brésiliennes décrivent les méthodes d’essai, les résultats obtenus à partir de petits spécimens exempts de défauts peuvent ne pas refléter le comportement d’un élément de taille normale. Cette étude compare les modules élastiques de petits échantillons et d’éléments structurels de cinq bois durs tropicaux : Caixeta, Tauari, Cambará, Piquiá et Peroba Mica. Des essais de flexion statique et de vibration transversale ont été réalisés, et l’ANOVA a été utilisée pour évaluer la cohérence. La méthode de vibration était statistiquement valable (p = 0,647), et les modules moyens des petits échantillons correspondaient à ceux des éléments structurels en flexion et en compression parallèlement au grain (p = 0,767 et 0,308). Les résultats confirment que les modules d’élasticité des petits spécimens représentent de manière fiable le comportement à l’échelle structurelle de ces espèces.
