Modern root canal sealers have evolved to provide superior sealing ability, enhanced biocompatibility, and improved clinical outcomes. Bioceramic sealers are the latest advancement due to their bioactivity, excellent dimensional stability, high alkalinity, and ability to form hydroxyapatite, promoting periapical healing. Compared with conventional zinc oxide-eugenol, calcium hydroxide, resin-based, and glass ionomer sealers, bioceramic sealers exhibit minimal shrinkage, better antimicrobial properties, and greater moisture tolerance. Recent trends also include premixed injectable formulations, nanoparticle incorporation for enhanced antimicrobial action, and sealers compatible with single-cone obturation techniques. These innovations simplify clinical procedures while improving the long-term success of endodontic treatment by ensuring a durable, hermetic seal.
