In einer explorativen Studie werden die Zielsetzungen, Resultate und Bewertungen des Modellversuchs Informationsvermittlung bilanziert. Untersucht wurden 134 geförderte Informationsvermittlungsstellen (IVS) in privaten Dienstleistungsunternehmen, in wirtschaftsnah arbeitenden Einrichtungen und in Forschungsinstitutionen, die für die interne Verwendung und/oder mit dem Ziel der externen Vermarktung von Recherchen Online-Datenbanken erproben konnten. Der Autor stellt den experimentellen Ansatz der Fördermaßnahme heraus, erläutert die gewählten quantitativen und qualitativen Analyseverfahren sowie die empirische Methode der teilnehmenden Beobachtung. Er beschreibt den Verlauf des Modellversuchs von der Implementierungsphase über die flankierenden Maßnahmen bis zur Endauswertung. Dabei werden neue statistische und qualitative Ergebnisse zur informationstechnischen Ausstattung von IVS, zur Qualifikation der Mitarbeiter, zu deren Rechercheverhalten, zum Marketing und zu Kooperationsstrukturen sowie zu Wirtschaftlichkeit und Akzeptanz der Online-Nutzung präsentiert. Zuletzt werden die Erfahrungen aus dem Modellversuch zusammenfassend bewertet. Schlußfolgerungen für aktuelle Fördermaßnahmen im Fachinformationsbereich werden gezogen.
