Ces dernières années, le bassin hydrographique du Haut Paraguay a subi plusieurs événements hydrologiques extrêmes de sécheresse et d’inondation, causant de nombreux dommages économiques et sociaux. Pour tenter de prévoir et de mieux comprendre les phénomènes hydrologiques à l’avance, le Brésil dispose du Réseau hydrométéorologique national (RHN). Cette recherche vise à fournir des informations utiles pour la surveillance des inondations et des sécheresses et pour la gestion des ressources en eau, en proposant l’utilisation de données de télédétection et de la modélisation hydrologique comme outils pouvant y contribuer, ainsi que l’évaluation des données hydrologiques obtenues à partir du réseau de stations conventionnelles dans le bassin hydrographique du Haut Paraguay.
