The history of government wage review in Nigeria is as old as the history of the nation’s minimum wage. Minimum wage, which relates to some legal restrictions on the lowest wage rates payable by employers to their workers, have influenced wages in Nigeria since 1955, courtesy of the Wages Board Act of 1955. From 1955, successive governments have set minimum wages for all kinds of occupations/trades, especially the ones that can be considered formal.
