These are a series of ’generative’ verses on the themes of willing oneself through urban landscapes. They are (supposedly the first such thing!) to be read and or performed aloud in an infrared point cloud so that the body’s movement through a quadrant will playback what was said seconds or minutes before thus distorting time, simulation, and archive. This distortion of time through past and present is further sectioned into Aristotelian quadrants that negate, obverse, or contradict what was perform before. Another interface that these verse poems are meant to interact with is the neuro-sensor that can distort time to ’future’ recordings or past declamations of the verse. All of these gimmicks and prosthesis alternate between the simplicity of just ’listening’ to the performance (or reading on ’obsolete’ paper!) or becoming aware of the intended or unintended formal complexity of human and machine performing with the intended or unintended chance and effect

  • Polishing the Silver
    Jennifer Chrystie
‘There’s a touch of both Dickinson and Larkin in Jennifer Chrystie’s mature exhumation of the tales and tropes of family. Figures who could so easily flit like phantoms in her well honed poetry are palpably enjoying an after-life in the poet’s ability to redeem through deep understanding. The collection arcs from, at one extreme, the parsimonies of the household, to the transce...

  • One Kiss
    Edward V Bonner
The very title of Edward V. Bonner's first volume of poetry, One Kiss (Ingram, 2015), suggests some ways in which the poems inside balance the universal with the particular. Most of the poems examine the themes of beauty and risk, pleasure and danger, in the context of one of three kinds of relationships: to romantic partners, to the spiritual world, and to the world of nature....

  • The Truth about A
    Maureen O'Shaughnessy
In his interpretation of Antigone, Seamus Heaney says, ‘Nobody can be sure they are always right.’ Maureen O’Shaughnessy’s The Truth about A further attends to this idea through various readings of the myth as portrayed by Sophocles, Brecht, Ted Hughes, Anne Carson and, most particularly, Euripides. Set in contemporary Sydney, among a fictional underworld family, The Truth abou...

VickyI’m really glad to have taken this course. I’ve been interested in set design, but hadn’t found a class online or one that fit with my day job schedule. This class has been a great introduction to programs used in the field. I was excited that the course was focused on design, and opened up to include all types of performances. Instead, I felt that this course’s structure ...

One of the most resilient was fiction of ’money’: The algorithms work perfectly. You can make them pay fictional money just to get inside the stadium with 10,000 other hominids. There was a famous one about judging, caring, omnipotence, that this animal did, but it never lead to violence. It lead to some sort of action around a ’fiction’....to the moon, curing cancer, to mars....
