Les matériaux semi-conducteurs en couches minces sont les composants de base des dispositifs photoniques, électriques et magnétiques. En modifiant les caractéristiques des matériaux et en réduisant leur taille, la fabrication de matériaux sous forme de couches minces permet de les intégrer facilement dans différents dispositifs. Les principaux avantages des systèmes à couches minces sont l’efficacité des dispositifs et la réduction des coûts. Ils sont souvent utilisés pour modifier les caractéristiques électriques et optiques, protéger les surfaces des produits chimiques et de l’abrasion. En raison de ses utilisations bénéfiques dans l’énergie solaire, les dispositifs à semi-conducteurs, les circuits intégrés, les mémoires magnéto-optiques, les diodes électroluminescentes, les revêtements protecteurs multifonctionnels, les écrans à cristaux liquides et d’autres technologies, la recherche sur les couches minces semi-conductrices se développe rapidement. Cette revue traite des développements récents en matière de couches minces semi-conductrices nanostructurées photocatalytiques, de leur dépôt, des techniques de fabrication, du contrôle des micro/nanostructures des films, des propriétés physicochimiques, du mécanisme photocatalytique et de leurs applications photocatalytiques dans les domaines de l’énergie, y compris la production d’hydrogène, la réduction du CO2 en produits chimiques utiles et l’assainissement de l’environnement.
