Les recherches centrées sur la vie humaine sont très importantes, car les êtres humains sont les espèces architecturales au sein du système fermé appelé univers. L’environnement humain a été un réservoir de contamination par les métaux lourds, qui est également un facteur déterminant pour l’histoire de la vie d’un individu, son alimentation et ses habitudes sanitaires, et qui, au fil du temps, s’infiltre dans les cheveux. Les cheveux, en tant que matrice de mesure biologique, constituent un bon indicateur de la bioaccumulation des métaux lourds, car ceux-ci s’y accumulent sur une longue période, contrairement à d’autres indicateurs similaires tels que le sang et l’urine, où leur rétention est transitoire. La recherche s’appuie donc sur ces prémisses.
