Between the years 2010-2013 I wrote 290 poems that made it into this book, 'Memories Retrievable Futures Conceivable.' Three poems are not from those years but are closely related, stylistically. My writing then came to me like all writing did back then, intuitively! Until now the poems were out of my hands in ways unknown to me but kept safe at a distance. Yet, I have a clue why, and because of this I now trust the poems and their prescient timing. It was not exactly their moment to be published when they were created. Some of the poems I edited in the conditioning of this book to clarify their poignancy. I felt great pressures not to, but I endured. Albeit, while possibly making mistakes. Of this I am unsure, as most writers are upon the publication of their works.Mostly, I find myself delighted and am assured by these poems of sprightly disposition! I have found in them both memories and futures, and shall find out where their possibilities lead us!Damon Freed

    Jennifer Chrystie
‘There’s a touch of both Dickinson and Larkin in Jennifer Chrystie’s mature exhumation of the tales and tropes of family. Figures who could so easily flit like phantoms in her well honed poetry are palpably enjoying an after-life in the poet’s ability to redeem through deep understanding. The collection arcs from, at one extreme, the parsimonies of the household, to the transce...

  • One Kiss
    Edward V Bonner
The very title of Edward V. Bonner's first volume of poetry, One Kiss (Ingram, 2015), suggests some ways in which the poems inside balance the universal with the particular. Most of the poems examine the themes of beauty and risk, pleasure and danger, in the context of one of three kinds of relationships: to romantic partners, to the spiritual world, and to the world of nature....

Valerius Flaccus lent sharp Roman refinements and erotic passion to the tale, which are skillfully sustained in this careful and appealing modern translation in English ver...

  • The Truth about A
    Maureen O'Shaughnessy
In his interpretation of Antigone, Seamus Heaney says, ‘Nobody can be sure they are always right.’ Maureen O’Shaughnessy’s The Truth about A further attends to this idea through various readings of the myth as portrayed by Sophocles, Brecht, Ted Hughes, Anne Carson and, most particularly, Euripides. Set in contemporary Sydney, among a fictional underworld family, The Truth abou...

  • An Approximation Proclamation, for Taylor Swift
    Damon Freed
The book, 'An Approximation Proclamation, for Taylor Swift' gains its strength in two ways - from my imagination, firstly, and secondly, from my experiences, as a man. I compare it visually to Cuisenaire rods neatly stacked yet, at times, unorthodox in techniques. I draw on pasts and future projections, observations, experiences, and imaginations to perform in that precious mom...

Periodically, this book was written methodically upon nights spent in my dad’s studio in downtown Sedalia, Missouri. My style of poetry is free-verse some call it, but I like to call it lyrical prose if I was to categorize it, poetry is what I prefer to call my writing, and plain speak essays of merit. My poems and essays combine spontaneous thoughts, and draw on planning somet...

  • Love, by Damon Freed

It is difficult to remember the details of making this book as it is 2 a.m. in the morning. It probably came about at all times of day and night... actually, I’m sure of it. Like most of my books this book is composed of nonrhyming and rhyming poems, lyrical prose and nonlyrical prose, and perhaps an essay or two or at least a poem or two resembling essays. Anyhow, the dark nig...

  • The Thin Gray Line, for Taylor Swift

I’m not exactly sure what possessed me to write these poems but they came out of me as most poems do, without prerequisite! I was inspired by her. What can I say, love is free and when it comes it comes, and one must obey! So, that’s what I did and why I did it. I’m an artist. Remember that. But, it’s not to say I don’t have feelings of this kind, for her. The poems are honest,...

I have written this book for an audience of tastes. The lyrical and prosaic poems that follow are indebted to some older poets as well as to my contemporaries writing in veins today! This book follows no particular themes in order, yet is organized as such! As a writer I began with William Butler Yeats’ romantic poems mostly, from there, the rest was history. My themes on writi...
