Me vs. Myself is a powerful collection of poetry about black girl adolescence, written by fourteen-year-old Austinite, Maya Craft. Through her poems, Maya takes on different characters and writes from a variety of perspectives, but most often she writes from her own. Themes she explores through her poetry include love, loneliness, confidence, depression, hope, fear, family, loss, betrayal, resilience, being a girl, being black, and finding herself. Me vs. Myself is less about answering questions than it is about experiencing them. There is no right or even static answer. And yet, in these poems, with fierceness, sweetness, clarity, and power, Maya makes herself known.
