Some people think that the only way for God to hear them is to complain. It is important to know that murmuring gives a distorted image of God. It presents Him as a very harsh man who does not sympathize with the pain of others until they are completely exhausted. Complaining is a sin that can provoke God to anger. Complaining and faith do not go together. We would even go so far as to say that complaining is the opposite of faith. When we complain, we are questioning God’s power, His faithfulness, and His goodness. In the books of Exodus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy, we see that God’s anger, not His goodness, was manifested whenever the people murmured. Numbers 14 says that the murmuring of the people was the cause of their wandering in the desert for forty years. It should also be noted that in the same year they left Egypt, the people had almost reached the borders of the land of Canaan. Numbers 13 shows us that Moses sent spies to explore the land of Canaan. This proves that they were not too far away, and yet their murmuring kept them in the desert for thirty-nine more years.Dear friends, we must understand that murmuring will not prompt God to act on our behalf.
