Dieses Begleitbuch umfasst den gesamten Heidelberger ONLINE-Brückenkurs „MATHEMATISCHER VORKURS zum Studium der Physik' und bietet den Studierenden der Physik und der Ingenieurwissenschaften eine strukturierte Zusammenstellung des mathematischen Handwerkszeugs, das in der ersten Zeit des Studiums benötigt, aber erst später in den Mathematikvorlesungen erarbeitet werden kann. Der Stoff ist bewusst ganz eng ausgewählt und konzentriert sich auf das intensive Verstehen der wichtigsten Begriffe und Konzepte. Was im Schulunterricht oft nur unvollständig behandelt wurde, wird hier knapp und praxisnah bereitgestellt, wobei alle mathematischen Begriffe bei der Einführung physikalisch motiviert werden. Der zweischichtige ONLINE-Kurs „MATHEMATISCHER VORKURS zum Studium der Physik' wird seit 2001 unter www.thphys.uni-heidelberg.de/~hefft/vk1 angeboten mit 144 Abbildungen darunter 28 Animationen, 532 Übungsaufgaben mit Lösungsskizzen meist aus der Physik sowie zwei PDF-Versionen. Inzwischen viersprachig, hat er sich als wirksame Hilfe gegen den gefürchteten „Mathe-Schock' in den ersten Wochen des Physikstudiums weltweit bewährt und wird millionenfach genutzt. Kurs und Buch schaffen ein mathematisches Fundament und ermöglichen zusammen die optimale Vorbereitung in der wichtigen Zeit zwischen Abiturprüfung und Semesterbeginn. Vor allem die Übungsaufgaben mit den auch im Buch enthaltenen Lösungsskizzen helfen beim Verstehen und Einüben des Stoffes. Für die zweite Auflage wurden Fehler korrigiert und viele Abbildungen neu gestaltet.
