Sulla spinta dell’attuale discorso a favore dell’inclusione nell’ambiente scolastico, tutti gli studenti sono invitati a condividere lo stesso spazio. In ambito politico, sono state adottate alcune misure, come l’approvazione della Legge LIBRAS (BRASIL, 2002), che rende ufficiale questa lingua, e la garanzia della presenza di interpreti LIBRAS (BRASIL, 2005) nei servizi educativi, entrambe a favore degli studenti sordi. Tra le barriere all’insegnamento e all’apprendimento per le persone sorde in una situazione inclusiva, nel nostro caso relativa all’insegnamento della matematica, sottolineiamo il fatto che la comunicazione rimane il principale ostacolo a un insegnamento di buona qualità. Tutte le strategie metodologiche a disposizione dell’insegnante in una lezione sono permeate dal linguaggio come principale mezzo di comunicazione. In questo senso, il libro presenta un caso di studio volto ad analizzare le conoscenze matematiche degli studenti sordi del nono anno di scuola primaria in una scuola pubblica e municipale della città di Cajazeiras - PB.
