Mark Dennison’s Charge is a novel written by Georgiana Marion Craik and first published in 1881. The book tells the story of Mark Dennison, a wealthy and successful businessman who is suddenly tasked with caring for his young niece and nephew after their parents die in a tragic accident. Despite his initial reluctance and lack of experience with children, Mark quickly becomes devoted to his new role as their guardian and sets out to provide them with the love and stability they need to overcome their grief and move forward. As Mark navigates the challenges of raising two young children on his own, he also finds himself drawn to a young woman named Edith, who becomes a close friend and confidante. However, their relationship is complicated by the fact that Edith is already engaged to another man, and Mark must decide whether to pursue his feelings for her or let her go.Throughout the novel, Craik explores themes of family, love, and duty, as well as the challenges and rewards of parenthood. Mark’s journey from a successful businessman to a devoted guardian is a testament to the power of love and the resilience of the human spirit. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
