Marianela is a novel written in 1903 by Spanish author Benito Perez Galdos. The story takes place in a small mining town in Spain and follows the life of a young girl named Marianela. Marianela is a poor orphan who works as a guide for blind Pablo, the son of the wealthy and influential family that owns the mines. Marianela is deeply in love with Pablo but is aware that he is in love with another woman, his cousin Florentina. Marianela’s love for Pablo is so strong that she is willing to sacrifice her own happiness for his. As the story progresses, Marianela’s love for Pablo becomes more complicated, and she begins to question her own worth and value as a person. The novel explores themes of love, sacrifice, class, and the human condition. Marianela is considered one of Galdos’ greatest works and is a classic of Spanish literature. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
