En el cuidado integral de niños y jóvenes con una discapacidad crónico degenerativa o enfermedad terminal, es necesario contar con un tratamiento no solo médico, sino también psicológico y tanatológico. Es fundamental apoyar en este proceso al cuidador primario, a la familia y al niño o joven, así como brindar un acompañamiento emocional donde se facilite la capacidad de asimilación de la pérdida de funciones y habilidades, así como la posibilidad inminente de la muerte. El presente manual es una útil y práctica herramienta de trabajo que facilita la intervención psicológica en procesos de pérdidas y duelo en personas con estas características. Le permitirá al profesional, psicólogo y/o tanatólogo, contar con una guía de estrategias terapéuticas posibles de utilizar en este tipo de intervención con pacientes, y estrategias para el apoyo en terapia familiar con los padres o cuidadores. Las estrategias son posibles de utilizar tanto en psicoterapia individual como también para adecuar en terapias grupales.
