Der Begriff 'Management' ist im Gesundheitswesen nicht sehr gebräuchlich. Die Führung der Institutionen wird noch häufig als reaktive Verwaltung gesehen. Veränderte Umweltbedingungen, Kostendruck, Personalknappheit, teure medizintechnische Entwicklungen usw. machen jedoch ein aktives und prospektives Management notwendig. Ein solches erfordert entsprechend aufbereitete Informationen. Mit diesem Buch wird ein Beitrag zur Schließung des heutigen Informations- und Steuerungsdefizits im Bereich der Krankenhausführung geleistet. Im ersten Teil des Buches werden Grundlagen zum Gesundheitsversorgungssystem und zur Krankenhausführung dargestellt. Thema des zweiten Teils ist das Problem von Informationen und Kennzahlen im Führungsprozeß. Der dritte Teil enthält eine Analyse der bestehenden Informations- und Kennzahlenmodelle im deutschen und englischen Sprachraum. Basierend auf den Vorstellungen des systemorientierten Managements wird im letzten Teil eine umfassende Konzeption für Krankenhausinformations- und Kennzahlensysteme vorgestellt.
