Douglas William Jerrold (1803-1857) war ein englischer Schriftsteller, der auch als Journalist tätig war und ´´Madame Kaudel´s Gardinenpredigten´´ zunächst als Comic im Punch Magazine veröffentlichte. Später wurden diese im Buchformat herausgegeben und erfreuten sich internationaler Beliebtheit. Sie umfassen die Lektionen und Gedanken der verstorbenen Ehefrau Balthasar Kaudels, die sie ihrem Mann Nacht für Nacht vorm Schlafengehen predigte und tief in sein Gedächtnis einbrannte. Ergebnis dessen ist ein humoristischer und amüsierender Einblick in die Welt der viktorianischen Mittelschicht.Übersetzung von Friedrich Gerstäcker.Überarbeiteter und illustrierter Nachdruck der 8.
