Macrocyclic Metal Complexes: From Synthesis to Biological Activity Macrocyclic chemistry represents one of the most dynamic and interdisciplinary fields of modern chemical science. The unique ability of macrocyclic ligands to form highly stable and selective complexes with metal ions has attracted considerable attention from researchers in coordination chemistry, bioinorganic chemistry, materials science, medicinal chemistry, and pharmaceutical research. Owing to their well-defined cavity structures, tunable donor environments, and exceptional binding properties, macrocyclic metal complexes have emerged as important systems for understanding metal-ligand interactions and for developing functional materials with diverse applications. This book provides a comprehensive account of the synthesis, characterization, structural investigation, and biological evaluation of macrocyclic metal complexes. Beginning with the fundamental principles of macrocyclic ligand design and coordination behavior, the text explores the strategies employed in the preparation of mono- and polynuclear transition metal complexes using nitrogen-, oxygen-, and sulfur-containing macrocyclic frameworks. Particular emphasis is placed on template synthesis, Schiff-base macrocycles, tetraaza and polyaza macrocycles, and their interactions with biologically relevant metal ions. A major focus of the book is the detailed characterization of macrocyclic complexes through modern analytical and spectroscopic techniques. The principles and applications of infrared spectroscopy, electronic spectroscopy, electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy, magnetic susceptibility measurements, thermal analysis, electrochemical studies, and X-ray diffraction techniques are discussed in relation to structural determination and coordination geometry.
