En octubre de 1970, Augusto Olivares, mi padrastro, que no sabía conducir, me pidió que lo llevara pues un atentado terrorista contra el general Rene Schneider había ocurrido en una calle de Santiago. Durante ese breve viaje inolvidable, Augusto me habló con gravedad, me dijo que la guerra estaba declarada y que sería una guerra a muerte. Me comentó también que querer cambiar el orden de las cosas siempre es una lucha, que siempre hay que creer en el triunfo de la justicia, pero que también hay que prepararse para el fracaso. El golpe de Estado se produjo tres años después, pero todo lo que me transmitió en ese extraño viaje del día hacia la noche, que no duró más de veinte minutos, resultó ser absolutamenteexacto.
