L’utilizzo dei criteri di idoneità medica (MEC) nella fornitura di metodi contraccettivi è una componente fondamentale per garantire la qualità, la sicurezza e l’accessibilità dei servizi di pianificazione familiare. Questo libro presenta i risultati di uno studio KAP che esamina l’uso dei MEC tra gli operatori sanitari in Uganda. La ricerca affronta un’area poco esplorata, evidenziando le lacune esistenti nelle competenze, negli atteggiamenti e nell’adesione alle linee guida MEC da parte degli operatori sanitari. Lo studio offre raccomandazioni basate su dati concreti, sottolineando la necessità di una più ampia diffusione delle linee guida MEC attraverso applicazioni mobili di facile utilizzo per supportare la conformità degli operatori. Sottolinea l’importanza di una formazione completa, in particolare per quanto riguarda l’inserimento e la rimozione dei dispositivi intrauterini (IUD), e sostiene strategie di trasferimento delle mansioni per aumentare il numero di operatori qualificati. Inoltre, sottolinea la necessità di affrontare i pregiudizi e migliorare gli atteggiamenti nei confronti della MEC al fine di promuovere un’assistenza più incentrata sul cliente.
