Ces travaux de recherche ont été menés pour étudier l’effet de la croissance urbaine le long d’une rivière. En utilisant la rivière Delimi à Jos au Nigeria comme étude de cas, les travaux ont examiné comment le changement de la couverture terrestre de 1986 à 2010 a affecté les inondations dans la région. L’étude montre que la vulnérabilité des personnes vivant dans la zone inondable a augmenté au fil des ans, ce qui indique que l’inondation est progressive. Les autorités compétentes, en particulier le gouvernement, devraient prendre des mesures d’atténuation en mettant en place des politiques de gestion des inondations, comme la transformation des plaines inondables et des zones sujettes aux inondations en espaces ouverts.
