Rybołówstwo przybrzeżne na Sri Lance jest jednym z najbardziej potencjalnych zasobów, które można rozwijać, aby sprostać przyszłym wymaganiom. Aby to osiągnąć, technologia i informacja mają do odegrania ważną rolę w związku z szybkim postępem technologicznym i konkurencją w rybołówstwie. W ramach badania zidentyfikowano luki technologiczne i informacyjne w celu zwiększenia efektywności ekonomicznej w zakresie nowych technologii, rozwoju floty, nawigacji, technologii narzędzi połowowych, metod połowowych, technologii połowowych, technologii po zbiorach i marketingowego łańcucha wartości. Niezbędne dane i informacje zostały zebrane z kwestionariusza i 30 statków (25%) ze średnich miesięcznych wyładunków w porcie rybackim Negombo. Różne aspekty technologii i informacji zostały przeanalizowane w celu zrozumienia statusu sektora rybołówstwa morskiego i znalezienia odpowiednich rozwiązań, aby wypełnić luki. Głównym problemem jest brak wiedzy i umiejętności w zakresie obsługi dostępnego sprzętu. Większość rybaków (97%) nie posiada odpowiedniej wiedzy na temat nowoczesnych technologii dostępnych w branży ani umiejętności ich stosowania w celu maksymalnego wykorzystania. Dlatego zaleca się zainicjowanie programu rozwoju floty w celu wykorzystania nowych technologii.
