1957. Sixteen years old. Abandoned in a New York City apartment. Your dead mother’s body has been stolen along with the lifetime of wisdom contained in her journal. Fearing confinement in an orphanage, what would you do? Eve’s mind and heart were revealed in her journal detailing her successes and failures, relationships with men, and the philosophy of life as taught by her mentor decades earlier. Yet, in the waning months of her life, knowing her daughter, Sasha, must absorb its wisdom for a Complete and Joyous Life before her death, Eve presents her explicit journal to the teenager. The Tarot cards tell Sasha her mother is dying. After the shock, Sasha realizes Eve had given her the journal a year earlier to groom her for life alone. She masters every task except one and asks Eve, 'Is there anything else about being a woman I need to know, other than that one last thing? How to be a lover.' Eve responds as few mothers would. When Eve dies at home, a man arrives claiming to have been summoned by her. Sasha allows his morticians to take Eve, but he never returns as he promised. Sasha discovers that he has also stolen the precious journal. Abandoned in their apartment with only recollection of the journal’s teachings and the Tarot as her counselor, the cards warn her to flee. Through her ten-year journey of love, disappointment, passion, terror, and fulfillment she never loses sight of her goal of finding her mother’s resting place and Sasha’s most cherished connection to her, the journal.
