A través de la historia, México ha firmado varios convenios internacionales con los Estados Unidos, destacándose los Tratados de Guadalupe (1848) en los que México cedió más de la mitad de su territorio, así como los Tratados de McLane-Ocampo (1859) mediante los cuales México cedía soberanía territorial, comercial y militar ante el Coloso del Norte.Los Tratados de Bucareli, firmados por el entonces Presidente de México en 1923, representan un atentado al interés nacional al renunciar a cualquier tipo de desarrollo tecnológico y científico. Existe quién afirma que tales tratados no existen. Sin embargo abundan los comentarios acerca de que en dichos tratados se aceptaron por parte del gobierno mexicano la no industrialización en áreas como el petróleo, electricidad, aviación y milicia.Los Tratados de Bucareli han sido contrastados con los Tratados de Versalles impuestos a Alemania después de la Primera Guerra Mundial, la realidad es que hasta la fecha (2021) México no se ha industrializado lo que prueba su vigencia.
