Esta historia transcurre en Hong Kong, en las fronteras de la China, a mediados del siglo XIX. Willy es un muchachito de 12 años, hijo de un capitán de barco. Vive y estudia en un colegio católico donde es muy feliz y cuenta con buenos amigos.Willy está ansioso por la llegada de su padre a puerto y cuenta los días para su regreso. Sin embargo, antes de que eso ocurra, llega la noticia de que ese encuentro no podrá realizarse. A partir de ese momento Willy se encuentra en situaciones de gran peligro y finalmente sucede lo que tanto temía.Descubre cómo Willy puede liberarse de aquellos que le quieren dañar y cómo se salva del naufragio, entre otras aventuras.Esta obra fue escrita por Joseph Spillmann, un autor infantil jesuita suizo. Tras ingresar en el noviciado jesuita de Gorheim (1862), fue enviado, durante la guerra franco-prusiana (1870), a cuidar a los enfermos. Diez años más tarde, cuando su orden fue desterrada de Alemania, fue a Inglaterra para completar sus estudios teológicos, y en 1874 fue ordenado sacerdote.
