Los derechos colectivos de los pueblos y comunidades indígenas se especifican en el apartado A del art. 2º de la constitución mexicana, son derechos que los individuos pueden disfrutar en virtud de su pertenencia a una comunidad indígena: Derecho al reconocimiento como pueblo o comunidad indígena, y así como están consagrados los derechos indígenas en nuestra carta magna de nuestro país en la mayoría de los países latinoamericanos también existe este reconocimiento de los grupos étnicos. De igual forma en el capítulo siguiente hacemos análisis sobre la educación indígena en nuestro país ya que ha tenido grandes retos, pero también grandes avances ya que en México después de 1920 comenzó la educación en comunidades rurales sin embargo no estaba enfocada hacia los pueblos indígenas sino a campesinos marginados, en esos años los pueblos originarios solo hablaban su lengua materna y había un gran indice de alfabetismo ya que la escuela significaba poco para ellos y no tenían interés en acudir a una institución educativa.
