L’orthodontie interceptive est efficace pour réduire la malocclusion, même si elle ne produit pas de résultats finaux de qualité. 57 % des enfants présentent une anomalie pendant la phase de transition entre la dentition de lait et la dentition mixte. Compte tenu du plus grand nombre de malpositions dans la dentition de lait et la dentition mixte, le besoin d’un traitement orthodontique préventif et interceptif se fait de plus en plus sentir. Une procédure interceptive entreprise au bon moment peut donc soit éliminer une malocclusion naissante, soit la rendre moins sévère, de manière à permettre à l’orthodontie corrective d’aboutir à un résultat stable et conservateur, dans un temps de traitement le plus court possible et avec le moins d’inconfort possible pour les patients.
