Phelix and Phlora considered themselves to be two of the luckiest pheasants in the world! They lived in the beautiful setting of Bluebell Wood and had lots of friends to fly and play with everyday. There were all the animals in the Woods, such as the owls, badgers and rabbits and all then there were all the animals on the lake, the swans, ducks and otters. It was the last day of September and Phelix and Phlora were enjoying a late summer fly and fun and games with their friends when Phelix remembered that tomorrow their whole world would come tumbling down! Phreddie, their father, had often told them the story about the First day of October, the start of the pheasant shooting season! From tomorrow their very lives would be in danger! How would Phelix and Phlora and all their friends escape being shot, would they manage to survive? Would they escape the guns and dogs when the family by the lake came to shoot in Bluebell? They would need to be very clever to escape with their lives once the First day of October arrived!
