Cet ouvrage examine l’utilisation des stratégies et sous-stratégies d’impolitesse conformément à la théorie de l’impolitesse de Culpeper (1996). Il soutient que des outils pragmatiques tels que la théorie de l’impolitesse peuvent être appliqués au discours littéraire afin d’expliquer les différentes dynamiques dans les conversations des personnages dramatiques. Il s’agit d’une œuvre littéraire écrite en anglais par un dramaturge britannique. Il s’agit de Look Back in Anger (ci-après LBA) de John Osborne. Le texte est analysé afin de déterminer comment le genre influence l’utilisation de l’impolitesse par les personnages. LBA est examiné d’un point de vue littéraire en relation avec son intrigue, sa structure, ses thèmes, son langage littéraire et son contexte historique, social et politique. En outre, des analyses qualitatives et quantitatives des stratégies et sous-stratégies identifiées sont menées en termes de fréquence et de pourcentage d’occurrences de chaque stratégie et sous-stratégie.
