L’hypersensibilité dentinaire est une douleur dentaire vive et de courte durée, qui survient lorsque la dentine est exposée à des stimuli, généralement thermiques, évaporatifs, tactiles, osmotiques, chimiques ou électriques, et qui ne peut être attribuée à aucune autre maladie dentaire. Un certain degré de sensibilité dentinaire est normal, mais la douleur n’est généralement pas ressentie dans les activités quotidiennes telles que la consommation d’une boisson fraîche. Par conséquent, bien que les termes sensibilité dentinaire et dentine sensible soient utilisés de manière interchangeable pour désigner l’hypersensibilité dentaire, ce dernier terme est le plus précis.
