Kokou Sahouegnon’s book is an introduction to lexical semantics and lexicology. Its main objective is the contribution of semantics to the promotion of the lexico-ethnolinguistic and cultural diversity that characterizes Benin.Various notions [béninisme, colinguisme, ethnolinguistics, etc.] lead to a confrontation with those of linguistic meaning. The result is a reflection on the analysis of linguistic interference. Solidly coherent in his approach, Kokou Sahouegnon, while describing the history and society of Benin with perspicacity and broad strokes, acknowledges in the conclusion of his work that the French spoken by our Beninese fathers and fathers conquered its independence through cultural and social crossbreeding. Thanks to a remarkable linguistic approach, the author arrives at these convincing conclusions: the French spoken by our Beninese f(ères, airs) has been enriched by everything that makes it possible to express the real way of life of the populations, between ethnicity and nation, between tradition and Europeanness, with its Beninisms, enabling them to retain their originality but also to have a sense of belonging to a homeland.
