Lettres Écrites à un Provincial (Letters Written to a Provincial) is a series of eighteen letters by Blaise Pascal, published in 1656-1657, that attacked the Jesuit casuistry. The letters are written as if by a Parisian to a friend in the provinces, and they are noted for their elegant style, wit, and biting satire. Pascal’s work greatly influenced French prose and played a significant role in the ongoing conflict between Jansenists and Jesuits within the Catholic Church.
