The book contains a selection of his letters to his son, as well as various maxims and sentences that he believed were important for living a successful and fulfilling life. Chesterfield was a well-known politician and writer in the 18th century, and his letters to his son have become famous for their advice on manners, education, and social behavior. The book offers a unique insight into the mindset and values of the aristocracy during this time period, and provides readers with a glimpse into the life and thoughts of one of England’s most prominent figures.1894. Chesterfield was distinguished at the court of George II, and was sent as ambassador extraordinary to Holland. He was made a knight of the garter and received the appointment of lord steward of the household. Chesterfield was found among the opponents of Sir Robert Walpole. In 1745 he was appointed lord-lieutenant of Ireland, and afterwards became secretary of state. He is now better known by his Advice to His Son, than by his public services.
